001 : Surah Al-Faatihah

Surah Info

This Surah is named Al-Fatihah because of its subject-matter. Fatihah is that which opens a subject or a book or any other thing. In other words, Al-Fatihah is a sort of preface.

Al-Faatihah is a Makkii Surah, i.e., reaveled before the migration of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from Makkah to AL-Madina. It consists of 7 Ayahs.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said regarding this Glorious Surah: “Al-Hamdu-Li l-lah Rabbi-l-`alamin (i.e. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds) which is Al-Sab’a Al-Mathani (i.e. seven repeatedly recited Verses) and the Grand Qur’an which has been given to me.” [Al-Bukhari]
